The MARK SHAIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP was founded by the Greater Manassas Baseball League in 2009.  Mark was the ideal hard working American, who served the youth of the area both in his role as a teacher at Forest Park High School and as an umpire with the Bull Run Umpire Association. With his passing, those who knew him well were struck with great loss, and from their hearts came the resolve not to let this very fine individual’s example fade with the passing of time. Remembering Mark’s love and dedication to the game of baseball, and his sportsmanship, enthusiasm and support of the players, the MARK SHAIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP was established.

The award is a $500 Cash Scholarship to be used toward a higher Education. The scholarship will be paid by check directly to the recipient.

Criteria and documentation required for consideration are as follows:

• Must be pursuing a higher education for at least one full year to be eligible for the scholarship (College or Trade School qualifies.)  If the student fails to complete one full year of the proposed higher education, then any refund due to the student tuition shall be remitted to the Scholarship Foundation, in an amount not to exceed the original amount of the scholarship.
• Must be a graduating Senior in an accredited high school within the boundaries of Manassas, Manassas Park, or Prince William County
• Must have played a minimum of 3 (three) spring seasons of baseball or softball in the Greater Manassas Baseball League between the league ages of 8-18
• Must have the qualities of: good attitude, school spirit, teamsmanship, and good sportsmanship, one might be described as a player with “Heart”
• Must be considered at least an average student academically.  This would be defined a possessing a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.75.  Copy of student’s current school transcript must be included.
